PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

 Thankfulness:
It can be the email that makes us laugh...
A telephone message from a long lost friend...
An unexpected hug from a patient...
A compliment from a stranger...
Children doing chores without being told...
A special note just for you...
No surprises in the mailbox...

Let us all be thankful for the smallest most insignificant things.  Thoughtful words or a warm smile could be just what someone needs.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Elizabeth Kae Sylvia, RDH

The fee for non-members is $30. For further information contact Desiree Franklin at javaddict21@aol.com

ARE YOU A SUBSTITUTE  HYGIENIST?

 Some Important Things to Consider:
Remember, you are representing all dental     hygienists, therefore making a good
 impression is important.
  1. Be Prepared:  Find out as much as you can about the office and your schedule ahead of time.  If you can, visit the office before the scheduled day if you have never been there.
  2. Be Prompt:  Arrive early to review charts and familiarize yourself with your operatory.
  3. Be Considerate:  If you make a commitment, keep it.  If you have to cancel, give plenty of notice, several weeks ahead if during summer, or vacation times.  Make an effort to find a replacement if you can.
  4. Always:  Return calls for substituting, even if you are not available.
  5. How Is Your Appearance?  Do you look like you just got out of bed, or is your hair neat and clothes clean, pressed, with no stains, shoes clean?  Are you wearing light make-up? Appearance counts for future jobs!
  6. Smile and Be Friendly!
  7. Remember:  There is no excuse for not showing up and not calling!

FOOD PROGRAM

There is a wonderful program to purchase food at a discount price available to anyone who applies. You can go online to www.angelfoodministries.com  to view the menu of items that are distributed on a monthly basis. For $30 you can purchase  a well balanced food plan ,including meat, with a value of at least $65.  Check out the website for more information. Feel free to pass this along to anyone you know who  may be in interested.

VCC STUDENT MENTOR PROGRAM

GODHA is in need of more members to participate in the mentor program with the VCC students. We will be having a meet and greet with the students at the December  meeting.
Please contact Tricia Bracher Nytricia@aol.com  if you are interested.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS/SPECIAL SMILES

Clinical Director Paula Schad would like to thank the GODHA members and VCC hygiene students who participated in the athlete dental screenings during the Special Olympics/Special Smiles State Fall Classic at Disney's Wide World of Sports on Oct. 31 - Nov. 1.  Other FDHA members and FSADHA members came from across the state to volunteer their time and talents.  We saw 155 athletes and documented 29 needing urgent dental care.
