Greater Orlando Dental Hygiene Association Newsletter

JANUARY 2010

Greetings!

The start of 2010 has brought with it horrific devastation to our Haitian community. While our area awaits the arrival of an estimated 4,000  displaced Haitians, GODHA has already started thinking of ways we can help.  We hope to provide dental hygiene supplies as well as oral hygiene instructions, etc. as the need arises. Please keep in touch with the website for updated information.

The funding for our community projects is related to the success of our continuing education during regular meetings and seminars.  Please help contribute by attending meetings and seminars so that we may continue providing much needed supplies.  Our seminars are the largest fund raisers we offer during the year.  Your attendance is needed so that we can secure valuable speakers/presenters who require a minimum number of registrants.  The number of registrants will determine if we must pay for a presentation.  Any added fees directly affect what we are able to do for our community.

We need additional volunteers for several library presentations in February.  Paula Schad has sent an email with the dates and times.  Please email me if you can spare a few hours for the children visiting the library.  The new puppets are waiting to meet and educate children about dental hygiene!
Thank you for your continued support.  It is an honor to be a part of such a wonderful organization.

President

SMALL SMILES IN THE MAKING,INC.

Tracy Taylor,RDH and Pam Boodhoo,RDH have started Small Smiles in the Making, Inc (Pediatric Preventative Oral Health Program )which is a school linked program for the under served children of northwest Orange County. They plan to launch the program February 26th for  Children's Dental Health Month. With the assistance of Janice Sistrunk Carlton DDS and Jimeecha Jolly, EFDA they will be at Wheatley Elementary in Apopka to perform screenings on  2nd and 5th graders. At a later date cleanings, fluoride treatments, oral hygiene instructions and sealants if needed will be performed at Dr. Carlton's office. This program does not replace the need for regular dental visits but is meant for children who otherwise would not receive it. We hope to add Zellwood and Apopka Elementary by next year. If anyone would like further info about the program or donate any supplies they can email Tracy @ tracyrdh@embarqmail.com

Quick Links

 Department of Health Survey

When you renew your license, please take the time to fill out the licensure renewal  survey which began in November 2009.  This survey will provide the Department of Health with valuable information about the  current dental/dental hygiene workforce and allow them to plan for future oral health needs for the people of Florida.

Each hygienist who renews online has the opportunity to complete the survey (completing it only 1 time).
If for some reason someone feels that they did not take the survey, they can log back in and look on the left hand side.
If there is an icon there for the survey, that means they did not take the survey when they renewed for this biennium.
If there is no icon there for the survey, that means they took the survey. This guarantees that each licensee will take the survey only one time. This survey is voluntary,  but we encourage all to take part in the survey.
