PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Thanks to all for a successful "first term" as president of GODHA. I have enjoyed the experience and look forward serving another year. We are busy with the last details for the Spring seminar. Please join us for an informative 4 hours of continuing education. As we move ahead, do not hesitate to communicate via email or phone any ideas or suggestions you have for our organization. We welcome any and all members to our board meetings. It is another way to share in the workings of dental hygiene.
Kae Sylvia, RDH

FLORIDA'S CE REQUIREMENTS
Your CE credits are due on February 28 of each even numbered year. That means it's coming up. For license renewal: 1. All courses must be given by a Board approved PROVIDER (with a provider number). 2 . All courses must deal with specific scientific/health subjects (see the following Florida rules). http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/dentistry/FS466.pdf http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/dentistry/dn_lic_req.html ). 3. Dentists must take 30 hours per biennium. 4. Hygienists must take 24 hours per biennium.
A few topics for education are mandatory. They include: 1. Prevention of Medical Errors (2 hours each biennium) 2. Domestic Violence (2 hours every third biennium) 3 . CPR (not included in the 24 hours) at the basic support level. The course must result in certification or recertification by the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross or an equivalent entity. It must include: a) one-rescuer and two-rescuer CPR and the relief of foreign body airway obstructions for adults, children, and infants; b) the use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED); c) the use of ambu-bags. For initial licensure: 1 . A 4 hour HIV/AIDS course must be completed at the initial time of licensure.
At the end of each biennium, the BOD sends each licensee an affidavit to complete. On the affidavit, the licensee states that all continuing education requirements have been met. You send in the affidavit with the appropriate fee for license renewal. Take all your required CE courses before signing and mailing the affidavit. Lying to the Board in respect to your license is grounds for discipline, including fines and suspension. Florida has designated CE Broker to verify participation in continuing education. This is an optional service. Licensees pay for the service if they want to list the courses they have taken with CE Broker. If you take your courses through FDHA or SFDHA, they will list the courses you have taken with CE Broker. If you take courses through other providers, keep careful track of your CE certificates. Some providers do not list their participants with CE Broker. It does not mean you won't get credit, but you may be audited and will need to have your proof of compliance.
